Addiction and Recovery

At Renaissance Malibu, our programs offer each resident confidentiality, peace, tranquility and life-long results. With beautiful garden landscaping and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, Renaissance Malibu rivals any exclusive treatment center in the world.

Addiction to drugs and alcohol is a common, devastating affliction in today’s world. Individuals with addiction issues come from all walks of life, from the mailroom to the boardroom. While the nature and severity of the addiction itself ranges widely among individuals, the results — depression, hopelessness, shattered relationships, physical and mental injury, loss of employment, among others — are inevitably the same. Even those who desire addiction help are often incapable of seeking it.

Courage and willingness are necessary to successfully treat one’s addiction, but people CAN and DO recover. At Renaissance Malibu, we witness this reality every day. Professionals view addiction as a progressive disease that will worsen unless treated, and both mind and body suffer the ravages of addiction; these areas must be thoroughly addressed, simultaneously. Our licensed addiction specialists and various clinical tracks offer hope to the alcoholic or addict and the chance for an addiction free life.

SIGNS OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTION

Addiction is defined by compulsive, sometimes uncontrollable cravings for drugs and alcohol, and continued use even in the face of extremely negative consequences. Sufferers of alcohol addiction, crack addiction, heroin addiction, cocaine addiction, prescription pain medication addiction and others forms of addiction are all included in this definition. An effective program at a drug and alcohol rehab is often the only solution.

Chronic addiction will result in relapses even after long periods of abstinence. Over time, addiction compromises a person’s ability to make the right choices. The need for drugs or alcohol becomes more compulsive as the addiction progresses, in large part as a result of the effects of prolonged usage on brain functioning and, thus, on behavior.

ADDICTION INTERVENTION

If your loved one is an addict and is in a state of denial, an addiction intervention may be the only way to get him or her on the road to recovery. An addiction intervention is a pre-arranged gathering, without the prior knowledge of your loved one who needs help. An addiction intervention “group” includes those who are no longer willing to stand by and let the addiction continue. By empathically confronting your loved one, denial may be broken and the road to recovery can begin. Sometimes, if the denial is very strong, the addiction intervention group has the loved one’s bags already packed and tells them they are physically taking them into treatment.

TREATMENT AT RENAISSANCE MALIBU ADDICTION CENTER

when you first arrive at Renaissance Malibu, you will meet with your physician, who will take a medical history and perform a physical examination. When necessary, depending upon the type of addiction and level of severity, a detoxification protocol is initiated and carried out under medical supervision. Every effort is taken to make this phase of addiction treatment as comfortable as possible.

Addiction manifests itself in a myriad of ways, some obvious and some dangerously discreet. Our addiction professionals, with years of combined experience, recognize addiction in all its insidious manifestations. They have developed intensive programs that are tailored to each persons specific needs. Our programs are focused on treating the entire individual — Mind, Body, Spirit, and Relationships — to give each person the tools they need to resume their lives and enjoy a lifetime of recovery.
